Professional Information

Helen C. Shreves is an attorney-mediator and arbitrator who has specialized in family law since 1978.  She received her mediation training at the Harvard Negotiation Project at Harvard University and the Center for Dispute Resolution in Boulder.  She has been mediating and arbitrating on a full-time basis since 1995.

Helen entered the private practice of law in 1978 and was an associate and partner for nine years with the law firm of Bayer, Carey & McGee.  She was a sole practitioner for five years before dedicating her practice in 1995 to full-time mediation.  Family law matters have been her specialty for the past thirty years

Helen was president of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association in 1986 and a vice-president of the Denver Bar Association in 1987.  She has been a member of the Executive Council of the CBA Family Law Section since 1984 and was the Chair of the Family Law Section in 1999-2000.  She was the President of the Board of Directors of the Metro Denver Interdisciplinary Committee (MDIC) in 2000.

Helen received the Denver Bar Association 1989 Volunteer Lawyer of the Year and was a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Grievance Committee from 1990 through 1996.  Helen obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and her law degree with honors from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1978.  She has been named a Super Lawyer and was listed in the Best Lawyers in America for the past seven years.


A deposit is required for all scheduled sessions.  All mediation and arbitration fees are due and payable at the conclusion of the session.  Conferences are held at Helen’s office unless otherwise agreed and travel time at her hourly rate is charged for services out of her office.  The conferences are generally scheduled for a four-hour session, but the clients are only charged for the time used by them.
